In Peru, MSMEs account for 99.6% of the formal business sector. This segment brings together economic agents that drive and contribute to the country’s economic development. A significant share of the population and the economy depends on the activity and performance of this segment, given its recognized capacity to generate employment and its participation in production. Indeed, in 2019, MSMEs contributed 33.3% of national value added and generated employment for 59.0% of the employed economically active population.
