Between January and March 2023, the artisanal fishery landings amounted to 417.9 thousand MT, a significant increase of 62.4% compared to the same period of the previous year, due to the increased fishing of squid (+242.4%) and bonito (+24.6%).
The extractive activity of the Artisanal Fishing Sector recorded a 3.6% drop, in terms of volume, compared to 2021. This performance is mainly due to the unfavorable oceanographic conditions (presence of cold waters) caused by the La Niña phenomenon during most of the year, as well as the strong waves recorded on the coastal coast.
