Performance and Importance of the Leather and Footwear Industry, 2019–2024

During the 2019–2022023 period, leather and footwear industry production declined at an average annual rate of 13.4%. In addition, between January and November 2024, the leather and footwear industry recorded a decline of 17.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. This result was driven by lower production of sneakers (-99.5%), sandals (-66.5%), and suitcases and briefcases (-33.0%), although it was partially offset by increases in the production of wallets (+166.0%) and bovine leather (+164.4%).
