In 2024, 17,224 formal businesses were registered in the VRAEM, representing an increase of 8.6% compared to 2023. Of these, 97.1% were microenterprises, 2.7% were small enterprises, 0.1% were medium-sized enterprises, and 0.1% were large enterprises. In addition, 44.2% of formal businesses in the VRAEM operated in the trade sector, while 42.4% were engaged in services. Likewise, the Ayacucho region accounted for 34.1% of all formal businesses in the VRAEM.
