Between January and June 2024, artisanal fishing landings amounted to 435,000 metric tons, reflecting a 44.5% decline compared to 2023 (784,000 metric tons). This decrease was primarily driven by reduced catches of jumbo squid (-70.5%), jack mackerel (-42.7%), mackerel (-46.9%), seaweed (-64.5%), and shark (-9.0%). Nonetheless, this decline was partially offset by increased landings of bonito (+61.3%), mahi-mahi (+48.6%), mullet (+16.4%), octopus (+587.5%), and hake (+48.4%).
