Legislative Decree No. 1084 – Law on Maximum Catch Limits per Vessel (LMCE) – regulates the fisheries management of anchovy resources intended for Indirect Human Consumption (IHC). Each year, two (2) fishing seasons and corresponding catch limits are established, based on the recommendations of the Peruvian Marine Research Institute (IMARPE), for both the North-Central and Southern zones. The anchovy fishing industry (fishmeal and fish oil) is an important source of employment and foreign exchange.
