Legislative Decree No. 1084 — the Law on Maximum Catch Limits per Vessel (LMCE) — regulates the fisheries management of the anchoveta resource intended for indirect human consumption (IHC). Each year, two fishing seasons and their respective catch limits are established, based on the recommendations of the Peruvian Marine Research Institute (IMARPE), for both the north-central and southern zones. The anchoveta fishing industry, through fishmeal and fish oil production, is an important source of employment and foreign exchange earnings.
