In Peru, MSEs were started to "take advantage of a business idea" (25.8%), "be their own boss" (18.4%), and "due to economic necessity" (14.7%). Additionally, before starting an enterprise, entrepreneurs were also employees in other companies (33.5%) or owners or partners in another enterprise (11.7%). Regarding entrepreneurship in the Amazon region, 83% of total ventures are concentrated in San Martín (29%), Loreto (19%), Ucayali (18%), and Huánuco (18%).
