In Peru, MSE entrepreneurs reported starting their businesses to “take advantage of a business idea” (25.8%), “be their own boss” (18.4%), and “out of economic necessity” (14.7%). In addition, before starting a business, entrepreneurs had also worked as employees in other companies (33.5%) or had been owners or partners in another business (11.7%). Regarding entrepreneurship in the Amazon, 83% of all ventures are concentrated in San Martín (29%), Loreto (19%), Ucayali (18%), and Huánuco (18%).
