Jan – Jun 2025: Artisanal Fisheries Sector Situational Report

In the first half of 2025, artisanal fish landings totaled 715 thousand metric tons, representing a significant 64.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024 (435 thousand MT). This growth was driven by higher catches of jumbo flying squid (+200.0%), jack mackerel (+60.3%), mackerel (+12.5%), algae (+33.2%), mullet (+30.4%), anchovy for direct human consumption (+129.1%), shark (+14.4%), and hake (+4.8%). However, some artisanal species experienced a decline in landings, such as bonito (-25.6%) and mahi-mahi (-80.8%).
