In January 2023, domestic trade sales experienced a decrease of 3.4% with respect to January 2022 and by 15.4% with respect to January 2019 (pre-pandemic). This result mainly responds to a reduction in sales in supermarkets and hypermarkets (-5.2%), hardware stores (-6.4%), household equipment products (-9.8%) and in pharmacies and apothecaries (-1.6%). In contrast, this behavior was partially attenuated by the increase in sales in department stores (+0.2%) as well as books, newspapers and stationery (+43.3%).
