This sector holds significant relevance due to its agro-industrial value chain. In the agricultural sector, cacao is one of the principal industrial crops in the country, cultivated in sixteen of the twenty-four regions. From 2014 to 2023, cacao production increased at an average annual rate of 8.8%, reaching 166,735 tons in the final year of the period. Additionally, the industrial structure of the cacao and derivatives sector in 2023 was predominantly composed of microenterprises (93.9%), particularly those classified as subsistence enterprises.
