National Surveys
National Artisanal Fishing Survey
Artisanal fishing is the main provider of fresh hydrobiological resources, supplying products that are sold in both local markets and major commercial centers.
However, there is limited information on how the various processes of this activity are carried out. Moreover, there is no updated profile of the primary stakeholder in this activity: the artisanal fisherman. To highlight the significance of this issue, it is worth noting that the last census of artisanal fishing was conducted just over a decade ago.
Given this situation, the effort by the Instituto del Mar del Perú (IMARPE) to conduct the Structural Survey of Artisanal Fishing in the Peruvian Coast (ENEPA) is highly relevant. The objective of this statistical instrument is to update knowledge on the condition of artisanal fishing vessels, fishing gear and equipment, and the social, economic, and demographic status of artisanal fishermen.
To date, IMARPE has conducted and published the results of four ENEPA surveys. The reports for these surveys can be accessed via the following links.

Structural survey of the artisanal fishery of the Peruvian coastline
ENEPA - 1997
This report mentions that the objective of the survey is to determine the total population of fishermen, the total number of artisanal vessels, the types of fishing gear and methods, the infrastructure at each landing point, and the main fishing areas of the fleet. The survey recorded a total of 28,982 artisanal fishermen, 51% of which are located in the northern zone (Tumbes - Lambayeque). The report concludes that the fishing areas of the artisanal fishing fleet are very limited to their center of operation due to lack of navigation instruments, detection, diversification of fishing gear and methods, and lack of propulsion.

General Report of the Second Structural Survey of the Peruvian Artisanal Fishery 2003 - 2005. Regions Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Ancash, Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna.
ENEPA- 2003
This report presents other important aspects of artisanal fishing activity, such as fishing methods and gear, the main socioeconomic and demographic variables, marketing system and available fishing infrastructure. It covered a total of 122 sampling points along the coast, including coves, ports, beaches and population centers, with an estimated 37,727 artisanal fishermen. The report also indicated that the main problems during the development of their activity were the following: the presence of the sea lion (17.8%), the lack of economic support for fishermen (16.5%), the scarcity of hydrobiological resources (15.4%), and the lack of fishing infrastructure (12.1%).

Third structural survey of the artisanal fishery in the Peruvian coast. General results
ENEPA- 2015
This report considers the main variables related to artisanal fishing activity, such as fleet structure such as fleet structure, fishing gear and methods, main socioeconomic and demographic variables, and available fishing infrastructure. socioeconomic and demographic variables, and available fishing infrastructure. The survey covered 92 sampling points along the coast, which included coves, beaches and population centers. A sample of 10,658 artisanal fishermen and 4,429 vessels was taken. The report found that the interaction with sea lions (58.7%) (58.7%), the scarcity of hydrobiological resources (34.8%) and the lack of economic support (26.1%) are the main problems faced by fishermen. the main problems faced by artisanal fishermen during the development of their activity.

First structural survey of shore fishing catches in the Peruvian coastline
ENEPA-2024
This report presents the results obtained in the framework of the "First Shore Fishing Catch Survey in the Peruvian Littoral" in three stages, all of them during the last quarter of 2015, 2016 and 2017. last quarter of the years 2015, 2016 and 2017. This study addresses the variables linked to the non-boat fishing activity, such as fishing activity, such as socioeconomic and demographic variables, as well as fishing gear, methods and techniques. fishing techniques. A total of 14,152 people engaged in non-boat fishing were interviewed, corresponding to 13,002 artisanal fishermen and 1,150 recreational fishermen. The report identified that among the main challenges faced by non-boat artisanal fishermen during the development of their activity are the low price paid by traders for the resources extracted (39.1%), the pollution of the sea due to various productive activities (34%), and the depredation of hydrobiological resources (33.7%).
