Convenience Store in Perú

Convenience stores in Peru hold high social value as they are responsible for the sale of essential goods. Additionally, they are micro or small enterprises that generate direct and indirect employment, constituting a basic and essential economic unit for the development of communities.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of formal retail businesses decreased from 573,000 in 2018 to 392,000 in 2022. However, in this last year, there was a slight recovery as the number of businesses in this sector grew by 6.6% compared to 2021.

In Lima, 38.7% of convenience stores are concentrated, followed by the regions of Arequipa (6.9%), La Libertad (6.4%), and Piura (5.5%). Additionally, there is a noticeable decrease in the number of convenience stores in the interior of the country, dropping from 334,000 in 2018 to 240,000 in 2022.

Additionally, 94.8% of the total formal retail businesses have sales that do not exceed 13 Tax Units (approximately 4,600 soles per month).

On the other hand, the added value of retail trade activity linked to Conveniencers Owners reached 1,252 million soles in 2022, 4.5% higher than what was registered in 2021.
